Great service, great food. Definitely a place to hit if you love quality seafood. The blue Maine root soda is worth a try for sure.
I just love this place great food and drinks to eat there and freshest seafood to go. It's very inviting when you walk in the door. You're always greeted promptly. Friendly helpful service. I wanted 6 of their biggest day boat scallops and they hand picked them for me. Nice! Finished up my holiday shopping with gift cards too.
As the name implies, SoPo Seafood is both a seafood market and restaurant (dine in or to go options available). Located right in the thick of things in South Portland, the space is small (ish), bright, we'll-decorated, and set with a hearty menu filled with seafood fare, specials, drinks, soups, and more. I highly recommend the So-Poke bowl with salmon, that came with white rice, pineapple, spicy mayo, eel sauce on the side, pickled onions, edamame, ginger, kimchee, carrots, and pickled cucumbers. 5/5-- the spicy mayo is on the spicier side, but it was all so delicious! I also loved the raw salmon and tuna crudo spoons- sooo yummy! Can't wait to head back. I'm shocked that they haven't received more hype!
Stopped by for an early lunch on our way back to Boston, and it was so good. Sat at the bar and had a Thai inspired spicy lobster stew, fresh local oysters, and a scallop roll with browned butter. Incredibly fresh and delicious...some of the best seafood I've ever had in 30 years of visiting Maine. Even tasted my first fresh scallop...wow, such a great experience
Wish I could give this place six or seven or ten stars. So phenomenal. By far the best hot lobster roll I've had in New England. Staff was excellent and super helpful. I also got caviar to go- sturgeon and trout roe - and they packed it on ice for me. Great prices for such high quality. Next time I'm in the area, this will be at the top of my list! They also offer a raw bar and bar. Can't say enough good things!
Awesome laid back atmosphere with an eclectic menu selection including a fantastic raw bar! The Good: service, food, atmosphere The Bad: the lobster roll (surprisingly) Ok so tried a bunch of stuff - the Shebang is a sampler platter and everything on it was fantastic with blue fin tuna, oysters, little neck clams, caviar, shrimp... the salmon potato chowder (never heard of that before) was delicious! Got some Live scallops and they prepared and dressed them - amazing! Weakest dish was the lobster roll - on my travels through Maine I've been eating a lot of lobster rolls and this one was my least favorite - the bottom half of the bread was super soggy (just didn't hold up), the portion of lobster was low compared to other stops and it was the chewiest lobster roll I've had yet. It was fun w caviar and uni on it for sure! But the bread and lobster were not up to par. Service was fantastic with warm, caring people if you don't mind laid back. I could see how demanding selfish people wouldn't enjoy the service but I definitely prefer kind hearted people that care even if it takes longer so a plus for me! Such an interesting menu it was hard to select what to get but very pleased overall with the experience!
UPDATE: SoPo is now another one of my go-to's when friends come to town! A recent happy hour included possibly some of the best cold-water little fatties I've had in a long time--and because I didn't note it before, I have to say also that I love the way they tag each variety with a clothespin clipped to the tray so you can identify it. Also, I don't know how it's possible that the staff gets friendlier and more fun every time I visit, but they do!
First time. we had a dozen oysters, yum. my husband had scallop chowder, he loved it and shrimp roll. I had lobster roll. Meat so fresh, had it toasted with butter. It's not fancy, you can pick up seafood to bring home. We went at 4:30 on a Tuesday. They had high tables and regular tables By the time we left it was busy. Delicious food. we will be back
Heaven. Heaven .heaven. A lobster oasis in a region of lobster oasis. So many options. Very good service and attentive. Casual set up, nothing over done. Fantastic lobster rolls. Can't wait to go back and grab more! Grade A
Found this gem as we were looking for a good seafood place to eat during our visit (specifically oysters for my husband lol). Overall, was very impressed by the cozy vibe and interior of this place. They have their place broken out so that you can either buy seafood and various items like furikake flakes, goodies (tees, sweaters, etc.) and a section for dining in. Service was amazing and the owner (i'm assuming) was super helpful and generous! Everything tasted so good and we'll definitely be back again to try the lobster roll and all other menu items!
